CD Basconia Sign Leioa Goalkeeper Gorka Campo, Álex Padilla Signs With Lezama
It’s been quite a season for CD Basconia. Athletic’s second reserve team didn’t start the year particularly well, but things completely changed when Ivan Fuentes took over during the December coaching changes. The Basauritarras are on the verge of a top 4 finish in the league table this year and showing plenty of reasons to be excited about the future.
Regardless of how the rest of the season plays out, the team will look much different next year. It always does. Many players will be promoted to Bilbao Athletic, some will leave the club altogether, and several from the Juvenil A squad will make the step up. There will also be some new faces and one is already confirmed.
According to a report from Javier Beltrán of El Correo, Athletic have signed Leioa Juvenil A goalkeeper Gorka Campo who will join Basconia this summer. The 18-year-old is a complete goalkeeper and viewed as one of the most promising young players at his position in Bizkaia. He will compete with Aritz de Miguel for the starting role next season. Current starting keeper Ander Iru will be promoted to Bilbao Athletic.
Campo isn’t the only one who will be joining the Katxorros this summer. Zarautz KE goalkeeper Álex Padilla has also been signed according to a report from La Cantera de Lezama. The 15-year-old is an exciting young player who has shown impressive reflexes and is great in the air and with the ball at his feet. Despite his age, Padilla spent time with the Juvenil A and B teams this season as well as the Euskadi U16 team. Real Sociedad and Villarreal also showed interest in Padilla who has signed a five-year contract with Athletic.
