Dani García In Danger Of Missing Remainder Of The Season With Muscle Injury
Sunday’s match at San Mamés had absolutely everything. An early goal, a missed penalty, VAR overturning calls, a red card, big saves, and plenty of drama. Pulling off a 3-2 win was massive for Athletic, but not everything was good. The exciting game also had two injuries which could leave the Lions with serious issues with only six games remaining on the schedule.
In the 58th minute Dani García tried to win a ball in the midfield and came up limping. He immediately put his hand up to ask for a substitute and went to the ground in pain. The medical staff was able to help him walk off the field but it certainly didn’t look good as Unai López took his place on the pitch.
After the match, manager Gaizka Garitano revealed that García has suffered a relapse to a recent hamstring injury. The midfielder was sidelined at the end of March and will now face a second recovery. Even worse, Garitano admitted that García could be out for the rest of the season. “Dani García has had a relapse to the injury he had before and it will be difficult for him to play again this season”, Garitano told the media.
Yuri Berchiche also left the field a few minutes later. Garitano explained that the left-back has been struggling with a shoulder injury for a while and suffered a sprain. Berchiche will undergo further tests and his availability at this point is unknown. Meanwhile, Ander Capa and Ibai Gómez are both recovering from their own injuries and Garitano stated that neither is expected to be ready for next weekend’s match against Real Madrid.
