Lezama Starlet Nico Serrano Protected By €30 Million Release Clause
There’s a reason why Villarreal President Fernando Roig is still upset with Athletic for signing Nico Serrano over the summer. The 15-year-old has proven himself to be one of the best young wingers in Spain and has already exceeded expectations at Lezama. This season he helped lead the Juvenil B team to the league title, scoring 20 goals, and debuted with the Juvenil A team over the weekend where he netted a brace and provided an assist.
Serrano has also been a regular face in the Spain U16 team which is coached by Athletic legend Julen Guerrero. He’s graced with technical ability, confidence, speed, and the ability to score goals. Naturally, other clubs have taken notice. When Serrano turns 16 he will be allowed to play outside of the country, though he wants to continue training at Lezama where he is happy.
Even if a club was serious about signing Serrano they would face a massive challenge. After signing the winger from Villarreal for a fee of just over €250,000, DEIA have confirmed that the former Board included a €30 million release clause in Serrano’s contract with Athletic. The winger is very young and still developing, but he’s showing signs that he could become a special footballer for Athletic. He wants to succeed at the club and the Zurigorri will give him every opportunity to realize his dream of playing at San Mamés.
