Fernando Llorente On Possibly Returning To Athletic Club “That’s What God Wants”
For the second time this season Harry Kane has suffered an ankle injury which will thrust Fernando Llorente into the starting lineup. The former Athletic striker featured in the final minutes of Tuesday’s win over Manchester City, though he doesn’t know what his future holds. Tottenham have the option to automatically renew Llorente’s contract for another year, but the 34-year-old admitted after the match that he hasn’t heard anything.
“No, nothing has happened yet”, Llorente began. “I’m calm, I’m not worried. I’m very focused on this part of the season because it’s very important. It’s an incredible opportunity to make history. Returning to Athletic if I don’t renew? Yes, that’s what God wants. Everything is fine.”
Llorente reiterated that he hasn’t heard from anyone at Athletic. “No, no one from Athletic has communicated anything to me”, he revealed. “The President has said that they are interested in every former player. That’s very good, let’s see what happens.” At this point many sources believe that Fernando Llorente will leave Athletic this summer and, if that does happen, Athletic are interested in bringing him back to San Mamés.
