Dani García Returns To Training, Ander Capa Sidelined With Muscle Injury
The Athletic players were in great spirits as they took to Field 3 at Lezama for training on Thursday. Just hours before the team had picked up another important three points with a dramatic 3-2 win over Levante, Athletic’s third straight victory. Now the Basques sit just 4 points off of 4th place and are already preparing for Sunday’s trip to Getafe which could see them climb even closer to Europe.
Unfortunately, Gaizka Garitano will be without Ander Capa who had to leave Wednesday night’s match early with a muscle injury. Tests have confirmed that the 26-year-old has suffered a moderate strain in the biceps muscle of his right leg and will miss roughly two weeks of action. There is hope that he will be able to return for the match against Real Madrid on 21 April, but that isn’t a guarantee. In the meantime, Oscar De Marcos will once again take his place at right-back.
Capa’s injury is certainly an unfortunate one. He just returned after missing the month of March with a hamstring injury and Athletic will have to make do without him once again. There was a bit of good news, however, as Dani García returned to regular training. The midfielder suffered a hamstring injury at the end of March and could make his return against Getafe depending on how he continues to recover over the next few days.
With Getafe currently occupying 4th place in the table, Sunday’s match is monumental for Athletic’s European dream. The trip to Coliseum Alfonso Pérez won’t be easy, especially considering the fact that Iker Muniain will also be unavailable due to yellow card suspension. It’s been a busy schedule for the Zurigorri since coming out of the international break and Garitano will be hoping to get his selection right once again and officially climb into the top 6 with a win this weekend.
