Markel Susaeta Interested In Moving To MLS If He Doesn’t Renew With Athletic Club
Markel Susaeta’s future at Athletic remains undecided. The captain wants to continue at his boyhood club but has yet to be given a renewal offer. Over the last few weeks sources have stated that it would only be a matter of time, though now more are starting to believe that an extension might not actually happen. In the meantime, Susaeta will keep waiting for an answer.
If Susaeta does not continue at Athletic he will keep playing football and will need to find a new home. According to a report from Javier Ortiz De Lazcano of El Correo, there are at least two La Liga clubs that are interested in signing the 31-year-old. Eibar, Susaeta’s home town, would love to bring him to Ipurrua, while Leganés are also entertaining the idea. Leganés have yet to contact the player at this point.
Another option that could entice the winger is a move to the MLS in the United States. Sources claim that Susaeta is very interested in making the switch if he doesn’t renew with Athletic. Doing so would see the Lezama product follow in the footsteps of Andoni Iraola who left the club in 2015 to sign with New York City FC. Iraola prioritized the journey to MLS to enjoy a new experience while also avoiding the possibility of having to play against Athletic which could have happened if he stayed in Europe.
