Lezama Weekend Recap: Athletic Juvenil B Win League Title

Asier Villalibre

Bilbao Athletic 1-1 Racing

On Saturday Bilbao Athletic welcomed league leaders Racing to Lezama in what promised to be a very difficult match. The Katxorros took control early on, but Racing were able to take the lead in the 21st minute. Luckily, Asier Villalibre equalized just 15 minutes later when he finished off a cross from Gorka Guruzeta. The game would end in a 1-1 draw, extending the team’s unbeaten streak to 6 matches, and leaves Bilbao Athletic just 7 points off of 4th place. With 7 fixtures left on the schedule, Aritz Solabarrieta’s side will travel to Cultural Durango on Sunday looking to move even closer to the promotional playoffs.

Sodupe 2-2 CD Basconia

CD Basconia’s three-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday, but they are still unbeaten in their last four. Juan Artola opened up the scoring in the 31st minute before Sodupe took the lead in the second half. Jon Cabo was able to equalize just minutes before the final whistle as the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Basconia finished the weekend 3rd in the league table and will host San Pedro on Sunday.

San Juan 2-2 Athletic Juvenil A

Having lost just once in their last 12 games, Athletic Juvenil A entered the weekend with the chance to continue their fine form. They wouldn’t be able to climb into the top four, but could still move up the table. The trip to San Juan on Saturday saw the Katxorros come away with a 2-2 draw and keep control of 7th in the standings, just 4 points off of 4th with one game remaining on the calendar.

Leioa 1-2 Athletic Juvenil B

Nico Serrano and Erik González both scored to lead Athletic Juvenil B to a 2-1 win over hosts Leioa on Saturday, but it wasn’t just another victory. Taking all three points saw the Kumeak officially lift the league title with two games left to be played. At the moment they hold an 11 point lead over Real Sociedad at the top of the table and will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Cultural Durango.

Athletic Cadete A 4-0 Deusto

Athletic Cadete A may have had a disappointing start to the season, but they have really turned it all around over the past few months. Saturday’s 4-0 win over Deusto saw the Katxorros extend their unbeaten streak to 8 games and move into 4th place in the table. They won’t be able to climb any higher with only two games remaining, but Sunday’s match against Kostkas at Lezama will be important if the team hopes to finish in the top four, something that seemed impossible back in December.

Retuerto 1-1 Athletic Cadete B

Athletic Cadete B moved one step closer to lifting the league title with their 1-1 draw against hosts Retuerto. There are only 5 games remaining on the calendar and the Kumeak hold an 8 point lead over Indautxu at the top of the table. Having gone 7 straight games without defeat, they will put their streak on the line Sunday when they host Indartsu at Lezama.

The Infantil C team have lost just once in their last 8 games and are in terrific form at the moment. They will host Danok Bat at Lezama on Saturday with hopes of picking up another three points.

Lemoa Harrobi 2-0 Athletic Alevín A

San Mamés 2007 have struggled over the last few weeks and Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Lemoa Harrobi extended their winless streak to 5 games. It’s been an up and down season, but it won’t get any easier. Unión Sport 1-1 Athletic Alevín C

The 11 game winning streak came to an end for San Mamés 2008 who played Unión Sport to a 1-1 draw over the weekend. It wasn’t the result they were hoping for, but the Alevín C team are still unbeaten in their last 17 matches. That streak could be extended on Saturday when they host Sodupe at Lezama.

Athletic Alevín D 7-3 Montefuerte

Alirón 2008 are in red hot form and pulled off their 13th straight win on Saturday, defeating Montefuerte 7-3 at Lezama. The Alevín D team has been perfect this season aside from one draw back in late November and will try to pick up another three points this weekend when they travel to Gurutzeta.
