Athletic Club Reportedly Interested In Signing Barcelona Goalkeeper Jokin Ezkieta
Lezama has long been considered a goalkeeper factory. Throughout the years Athletic have always been strong in goal with promising young players coming through the system. That’s certainly the case right now. Iago Herrerín has established himself as one of the best keepers in La Liga and Unai Simón has performed at such a high level he’s become the starter for the Spain U21 team.
It’s not just the first team. Unai Etxebarria and Hodei Oleaga are doing well at Bilbao Athletic and even younger goalkeepers at Lezama are showing great potential. However, the club is always looking to add talent and have set their sights on another shot-stopper who could join the Zurigorri in the summer.
According to a report from Javier Ortiz De Lazcano of El Correo, Athletic are interested in signing Barcelona B goalkeeper Jokin Ezkieta. The 22-year-old is from Pamplona and originally a product of Osasuna. He left Navarre in 2015 after failing to reach a renewal agreement and quickly signed with Barcelona where he has had the chance to spend time with the first team and play 10 matches in the Segunda B despite being the backup keeper. Unfortunately, he fractured a bone in his left hand during training two weeks ago and will be sidelined for roughly 8 weeks.
Ezkieta’s contract with Barcelona expires at the end of the season and El Correo claim that there have already been talks with Athletic. Both sides are interested in making the move happen, though it isn’t certain whether he would sign for Bilbao Athletic or as a third option for the first team. If discussions continue positively it’s very likely that Jokin Ezkieta will sign with the Lions this summer.
