Dani García Sidelined With Hamstring Injury
Friday night’s comeback win at Montilivi was momentous for Athletic. Picking up all three points saw the Lions tally 40 on the season, presumably guaranteeing their permanence in La Liga, and moves the team into a tie for 7th place. Gaizka Garitano made the necessary adjustments at halftime to put his team in position to take control of the match, but not everything was good news.
Dani García was forced to leave the field in the 73rd minute after suffering what appeared to be a left leg injury. Mikel San José took his place and after the match, Athletic gave an update on the midfield. According to the club’s medical report, García is dealing with a mild hamstring strain and will be undergoing further tests on Monday to determine how long he will be on the sidelines.
Based on the diagnosis, García is expected to miss Wednesday’s match against Levante as well as Sunday’s trip to Getafe. Athletic finally had every player back in training during the international break, but being without García will likely see San José return to the starting lineup alongside Beñat. With only 9 games left on the calendar, every single point is vitally important for the Zurigorri who hope to qualify for Europe.
