Gaizka Larrazabal Expected To Sign Contract Renewal With Athletic With Alavés And Eibar In Pursuit
The future of Athletic is bright. It always is. The current squad at Bilbao Athletic is full of players who could soon be making their first team debuts and manager Gaizka Garitano has no fears of giving chances to young players if they are ready. Several starlets are already set to spend the summer with the first team, and others could follow, including Gaizka Larrazabal.
The son of Athletic legend Aitor Larrazabal, Gaizka has been one of the best wingers in the Segunda B this season. He’s strong, fast, good with the ball, a great crosser, and can score goals. Some have compared his playing style to that of Ander Capa, but with a more offensive edge. This season he’s exploded with the Katxorros.
Larrazabal is currently the second leading goalscorer for Bilbao Athletic. He’s found the back of the net 9 times in 24 matches while also providing 9 assists. The 21-year-old is showing that he has a very bright future ahead and could soon be competing for his place in the first team. As expected, other clubs have taken notice.
Larrazabal’s current contract is set to expire in June and he’s already receiving attention. A recent report confirmed that Eibar have already made the winger an offer, and Ander Cotorro of Marca has since revealed that Alavés are also chasing his signature. Neither club would be able to guarantee the 21-year-old a place in their first team, but do see him as a young prospect who could develop into an important player.
Athletic have no plans to lose such a promising young footballer. Rafa Beato of Radio Marca Bilbao has reported that renewal negotiations have already started and Larrazabal will sign an extension for at least one more season. His new deal would include training with the first team in the summer where he will have the chance to convince Gaizka Garitano.
