Athletic Will Relocate Club Offices From Ibaigane To San Mamés
The Ibaigane Palace has been an institution and an essential part of Athletic since the club purchased it back in December of 1989. It’s served as the club’s official headquarters with the Board of Directors working there, contract renewals and new signings presented, and elections taking place on the grounds. In a few months, all of that could change.
During the Presidential campaign late last year Aitor Elizegi shared that one of his goals would be moving the club’s offices to San Mamés. It’s become a trend in modern football, but there’s also an issue of space and Ibaigane not being a very functional location for the Board and a club the size of Athletic.
According to a report from Javier Ortiz De Lazcano El Correo, the plans to move the offices to San Mamés are already underway. Athletic have yet to set a date for the move, but they are expected to leave Ibaigane for the Cathedral as early as the end of summer.
Ibaigane has been an emblem of Athletic over the years and has been the site of many special moments. The first team recently celebrated their Spanish Super Cup title there as did the Women’s team with their league title. There’s a lot of history at Ibaigane and Athletic have no plans to do away with the Palace. It will continue to function as a location to host important and institutional events, such as meals with representatives of visiting clubs, but the Athletic are also looking for other ways to use Ibaigane moving forward.
