Cristian Ganea Leaves Romania Squad With Muscle Injury
Cristian Ganea needed to leave Athletic in order to play regular minutes and he’s definitely making the most of the situation. The 26-year-old has started all 10 games for Numancia since joining the club on loan in January, providing one assist, and has been quite impressive. With the arrival of the international break, he was once again called up to the Romania National Team, but his time with the selection has been cut short.
While taking a corner kick on Monday night against Malaga Ganea felt pain in his left leg. It wasn’t enough to force him to leave the field, but he was taken off at halftime. The following day the left-back reported to the Romanian camp where he had to undergo standard medical evaluations. Tests revealed that Ganea is suffering from a Grade 1 muscle strain and will miss roughly two weeks of action.
The Romanian team will travel to Solna on Friday ahead of their match against Sweden the following day. Meanwhile, Ganea will return to Numancia to begin his recovery. He will miss the upcoming matches against Rayo Majadahonda and Granada, but will hopefully return for the fixture against Gimnástic on 7 April.
When Ganea left on loan he explained that joining Numancia gave him the best chance to prove himself to Athletic. He wants to succeed at San Mamés and so far he’s played very well in the Segunda. The hope is that this injury won’t turn out to be a setback for the 26-year-old, but the most important thing is his health and full recovery. With just 12 games left on the calendar, Ganea wants to return to Athletic in the summer in the best position to earn his place in the squad.
