Lezama Weekend Recap: CD Basconia Climb Into Top 4, Juvenil A Continues To Win
Bilbao Athletic 2-1 Arenas Club
Bilbao Athletic extended their unbeaten streak to 4 games on Sunday by beating Arenas Club 2-1 at Lezama. The Katxorros conceded an early goal in the first half, but dominated the rest of the game with Iñigo Vicente and Asier Villalibre both scoring and assisting in after the break. Taking all three points moved the team into 7th place and still 9 points off of the top 4 in the table. Bilbao Athletic will try to make it 5 games without a loss on Sunday when they travel to Izarra.
Amurrio 0-1 CD Basconia
Alvaro Núñez scored in the 55th minute to lead CD Basconia to a 1-0 win over Amurrio on Sunday. It was the team’s second straight victory and the Basauritarras have been firing on all cylinders under Iban Fuentes. They’ve lost just once in their last 12 matches and now find themselves in 4th place in the table. If Basconia manages to finish the season in the top 4 they will qualify for the promotional playoffs. To do that they must continue winning and they will have the chance to pick up three more points on Sunday when they host Bermeo.
Athletic Juvenil A 2-1 Pamplona
Athletic Juvenil A secured their fourth straight win on Saturday, defeating Pamplona 2-1 at Lezama. David Hernández and Unai Naveira were the goalscorers for the Katxorros who have completely turned around their season. The team will now put their 7 game unbeaten streak on the line this Sunday with a trip to Amorebieta.
Vasconia 1-0 Athletic Juvenil B
All good things must come to an end. Such was the case for Athletic Juvenil A who fell 1-0 on the road against Vasconia. It was the first loss in 10 games but the Kumeak still hold a 9 point lead over Real Sociedad at the top of the table. They will look to bounce back quickly and get back to their winning ways when they lost Tolosa at Lezama on Sunday.
Athletic Cadete A 5-0 Lakua
Like the Juvenil A team, Athletic’s Cadete A are soaring over the past few weeks. They defeated Lakua 5-0 at Lezama on Saturday with 2 goals from Aaron Bunta and one each from Hugo Rincón, Koldo Guarrotxena, and Alejandro Rego. They’ve now gone 6 games without a loss, 5 of those being victories, and have earned 4 clean sheets during the streak. The Katxorros will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Vasconia.
Begoña 0-7 Athletic Infantil A
Athletic Infantil A are still perfect after Saturday’s 7-0 win over hosts Begoña. The Kumeak have won all 20 of their games this season and currently boast a goal difference of +138 on the year. They will look to make it 21 wins on Saturday when Danok Bat visit Lezama.
Athletic Infantil B 2-1 Bermeo
Alirón 2006 bounced back from last weekend’s 2-0 loss to Indautxu with a hard-fought 2-1 over Bermo at Lezama on Saturday. It wasn’t easy, but goals from Peio Huestamendia and Ander Peciña led the team to victory. Athletic Infantil B have lost just once in the last 6 games but face another big test this weekend with a trip to Santutxu on Saturday.
Zalla 1-2 Athletic Infantil C
It’s been a rocky past few months for San Mamés 2006, but the team is starting to find a good rhythm. On Saturday they defeated hosts Zalla 2-1, their second straight win, and have only lost once in their last 6 games. Barakaldo will visit Lezama this Saturday for another big match.
Etorkizun 2-1 Athletic Alevín A
San Mamés 2007 tried to shake off last weekend’s 9-0 loss to Santutxu, but found themselves on the road against a strong Etorkizun team and fell 2-1 to their hosts. The Katxorros are winless in their last 3 games and will try to get back on the right track this Saturday when Lagun Artea visit Lezama.
Athletic Alevín B 3-4 Getxo
Likewise, Alirón 2007 have also faced some difficult matches throughout the past month. Over the weekend they were defeated 4-3 at Lezama by Getxo and are now winless in their last 4 games. Athletic Alevín B will hit the road this Saturday with hopes of beating hosts Romo and picking up three important points.
Zalla 1-9 Athletic Alevín C
San Mamés 2008 have been quite impressive this year. Other than losing their very first match of the season, Athletic Alevín C haven’t lost a single game and picked up a 9-1 win over Zalla on Saturday. It was the team’s 10th straight victory and they will try to make it 11 when they host Balmaseda at Lezama this weekend.
Athletic Alevín D 10-2 Gaztelueta
Alirón 2008 have had Saturday’s match against Gaztelueta marked on their calendars for months. They played their rivals to a 3-3 draw back in late November, but have won every other game this season. That draw has kept the team from being perfect and they finally got their rematch, winning 10-2 at Lezama. Athletic Alevín D may not be able to have a perfect season but they can win their 12th straight game on Saturday when they travel to Askartza.
Athletic Alevín E 10-0 Mungia
Speaking of perfection, Athletic Alevín E had won every single game until they suffered a loss and a draw back in early February. They haven’t let the negative results get to them and over the weekend they won their 4th straight game, defeating Mungia 10-0 at Lezama. The Katxorros will be back in action on Saturday with a trip to Loiola Indautxu.
