Kenan Kodro “It’s Very Important For A Striker To Score Goals”
Kenan Kodro scored his first goal for Athletic on Saturday to help seal a 2-0 win over Atlético Madrid. It was a decisive strike in the final minutes of the game and after the game he spoke with Athletic TV where he explained what it meant to score in the Zurigorri shirt.
“I’m very happy with the match and the goal, for contributing to the three points. It’s very important for a striker to score goals. Raúl Gaírca was the only one who had scored in recent games and it was important that the two strikers, Iñaki and I, scored today. I’ve never scored a goal so quickly in my professional career or when I was younger. I told my father that I was going to call to celebrate my first goal before being called up with Bosnia. Adapting to the team happened very fast; I couldn’t ask for anything better.”
Kodro went on to praise his team for a dominant performance against one of the best teams in Europe. He thought the Lions were more intense than their opponents which proved to be a deciding factor at San Mamés.
“We played a good game and they didn’t have any chances in the first half. We are asked to be intense and we were far superior in that aspect. My goal happened because of the pass that Ibai made. I was lucky to get it right and it means a lot to me. At this club you have to look up and try to be as high as possible in the table. This club is like that. This victory is important to go into the break and prepare for the game against Girona.”
Athletic will now enjoy the two-week international week, during which Kenan Kodro will be on duty with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Manager Gaizka Garitano will immediately start preparing for the next league match which will see the Basques travel to Girona on 29 March.
