Luis Enrique “Iker Muniain Is A Complete Player”
Iker Muniain hasn’t been called up to the Spain National Team since February of 2012. Now, over 7 years later, he’s back. On Friday Luis Enrique officially announced his squad that will compete against Norway and Malta in the EURO 2020 qualifiers over the next two weeks. Muniain’s name was included in the list, along with teammate Iñigo Martinez who is starting to become a regular in the team.
“He has gone a bit like Athletic this season”, Enrique explained when discussing Muniain in Friday’s press conference. “It started becoming harder for him to play, but now he’s a fixture. He can overlap, win one on ones, and his ability to give the last pass is a fantasy. He can play around the area and has helped score goals. He’s a player I like because of his profile. He’s a complete player and he has a good defensive attitude.”
Seeing Muniain included in the Spain squad came as a bit of a surprise, but in reality, it was fully deserved. The 26-year-old has been in scintillating form for Athletic this season, scoring six goals, and is the special spark for the Zurigorri. Now he will have the chance to prove himself on the international stage once again as a respected representative of Athletic Club.
