Aritz Aduriz Plans To Play For At Least One More Season

Aritz Aduriz Celebrate

Aritz Aduriz wants to continue playing football next season with Athletic (AC)

“Aduriz is at home, really, and he already knows what he is going to do.” These words spoken by Athletic President Aitor Elizegi to Marca when asked about the future of Aritz Aduriz gave fans hope. Just last month it was rumored that the striker could miss the rest of the season with a knee injury which could, in turn, force him into retirement. That no longer appears to be the case.

Just as quickly as the rumor started, it was ended. Sources claimed that Aduriz was working as hard as he could to get back on the field and that he was hoping to play next season as well. Just this week the striker returned to regular training and is expected to be back in the team sometime after the international break. If he is able to play this season it likely means that he will continue with Athletic next year too.

Sources have told Inside Athletic that Aduriz has had a one-year renewal offer on the table for a few weeks now. The striker wants to play again next year, that’s his goal, but first he wants to get back on the field and prove that he deserves the extension before putting pen to paper. This has now been confirmed by Alberto Santacruz of Oye Athletic who reported on Friday that the 38-year-old wants to play for at least one more season.

Santacruz goes on to reveal that Aduriz has taken his recovery very seriously. In addition to training at Lezama Aduriz has also had sessions in the hyperbaric chamber at the Indautxu Clinic, appointments with knee specialist Volker Tarnow in Getxo, and appointments in Biarritz with podiatrist expert Sylvie Matton. The striker aims to play next year and for that to happen he must return this season and prove to himself that he can still perform at a high level. Since returning to training Aduriz has looked strong and it should only be a matter of time before he is back on the field.
