Iago Herrerín “Atlético Are One Of The Best Teams In The World”
Athletic know what they will be facing when they kickoff against Atlético Madrid at San Mamés on Saturday. The Lions understand just how difficult it will be to get a good result, but they have no fear. Goalkeeper Iago Herrerín addressed the media following Thursday’s training session and said that the team is eager to take all three points and climb the table.
“We have good feelings. We are training well and we are eager. It’s going to be a tough but nice game to play. Atlético are one of the best teams in the world. We know that in this game we are going to have to suffer. Taking all three points would allow us to fight for Europe, but our main goal is salvation. Even if he’s a fundamental piece for us, we will be fine without Iñigo Martinez. I think that with Nuñez you won’t notice his absence. We have great players on the team.”
It will be a special game for Herrerín. Not only will he be playing against his former club, but he will also be making his 100th appearance for Athletic. It’s taken a lot of hard work to become the starting goalkeeper for the Zurigorri and Herrerín knows that he has to prove himself every single game.
“It’s a special game because, besides playing against the team I came from, this will be my 100th match with Athletic. I try to enjoy every minute and every game I play in goal because I know how hard it is to get there. This is the first time I’ve been the starter and it’s what I’ve always wanted. I’ve wanted to enjoy this and I’ve suffered a lot to get here. For me, every game is a test. You can never relax and must always give the best that you have.”
After Saturday’s clash with Atlético Madrid, the international break will begin for Athletic. The stoppage comes at a good time because it will allow for the Lions to recharge and also give an opportunity for players like Ander Capa and Aritz Aduriz to be reintegrated into the squad. That being said, the only thing that matters right now is the next game and Athletic understand just how important it will be to win at San Mamés this weekend.
