Lezama Weekend Recap: Bilbao Athletic End Road Woes, Ewan Urain Just Keeps Scoring

Mirandés 1-1 Bilbao Athletic

After six straight losses on the road Bilbao Athletic have finally brought a positive result back to Lezama. On Sunday the Katxorros played Mirandés to a 1-1 draw with Asier Villalibre scoring the equalizer in stoppage time. It was a difficult game for Aritz Solabarrieta’s side who haven’t given up on the battle for the top four. They will be back in action on this Sunday when they host Arenas Club at Lezama.

CD Basconia 2-0 Santurtzi

CD Basconia saw their 9 game unbeaten streak come to an end last weekend but responded in a big way on Sunday with an impressive 2-0 win over Santurtzi. Once again it was Ewan Urain finding the back of the net as the striker scored both goals in the victory. Taking all three points catapulted to Basauritarras into the top 4 for the first time this season. Basconia will be back in action this coming Sunday when they travel to Amurrio.

Numancia 2-4 Athletic Juvenil A

A few months ago Athletic Juvenil A were struggling in what was one of the worst seasons in recent memory. That’s now a thing of the past. Last weekend the Katxorros defeated 2nd place Real Sociedad 4-2 and on Sunday they repeated the scoreline with a 4-2 win over league leaders Numancia who had yet to lose a match at home all year. Jon Guruzeta, Unai Naveira, and Kepa Uriarte scored three of the goals while the fourth was an own goal. Athletic are now unbeaten in their last 6 games and have only lost once in their last 10 fixtures. Securing all three points saw the Kumeak climb into 7th place in table and they could improve that on Sunday when they host Pamplona at Lezama.

Athletic Juvenil B 2-0 Arenas

Athletic Juvenil B extended their unbeaten streak to 10 games on Saturday with an impressive 2-0 win over Arenas Club at Lezama. Forwards Nico Serrano and Iñigo López scored the goals that saw the Katxorros protect their 6 point lead at the top of the table. They will travel to 6th placed Vasconia on Sunday in search of another big win.

Antiguoko 2-2 Athletic Cadete A

Athletic Cadete A faced a huge test on Sunday when they traveled to 4th place Antiguoko. Aimar Duñabeitia and Adur Insausti both found the back of the net as the team pulled off a difficult 2-2 draw. The Katxorros have now gone five straight games without a loss and will try to extend their streak on Sunday when they host Lakua at Lezama.

Athletic Cadete B 3-2 Sestao River

The lead at the top of the table is now 6 points for Athletic Cadete B who defeated Sestao River 3-2 at Lezama on Saturday. Ieltxu García, Tirfe Gómez, Ibon Sánchez were the goalscorers for the Katxorros who have now won two straight games and have only lost once in their last six matches. They will travel to Lekeitio on Sunday looking for another big win.

Athletic Infantil A 5-1 Barakaldo

Nineteen games into the season and Athletic Infantil A have nineteen wins. The Katxorros have been perfect and defeated visitors Barakaldo 5-1 on Saturday to increase their goal difference to +131 on the year. Next Saturday they will travel to face off with Begoña and try to keep their perfect run going.

Indautxu 2-0 Athletic Infantil B

Alirón 2006 saw their four game unbeaten streak snapped on Sunday when they fell 2-0 to Indautxu. The Infantil B team will have the opportunity to shake it off and get back to winning this Saturday when they host Bermeo at Lezama. They won the previous meeting 3-1 earlier this season.

Athletic Infantil C 3-0 Retuerto Sport

San Mamés 2006 snapped their two game winless streak on Saturday with a dominant 3-0 win over Retuerto Sport at Lezama. The victory couldn’t have come at a better time for the Infantil C team who hope to build on the momentum this Saturday when they travel to Zalla.

Athletic Alevín A 0-9 Santutxu

It’s been a tough few months for Athletic Alevín A who entered the weekend with just 2 wins in their last 9 games. On Saturday they hosted Santutxu at Lezama and fell 9-0 in what was the worst defeat of the season. The Kumeak are in need of a big win and will have the chance to get it when they travel to Etorkizun this weekend.

Barakaldo 1-1 Athletic Alevín B

After two straight losses Alirón 2007 finally secured a positive result, drawing 1-1 with hosts Barakaldo. The Alevín B team have gone through different cycles this season, most notably a four game winning streak before their two losses, and will have the chance to pick up an important three points on Saturday when they host Getxo at Lezama.

Athletic Alevín C 10-0 Somorrostro

San Mamés 2008 defeated visitors Somorrostro 10-0 on Saturday, winning their 8th straight game and extending their unbeaten streak to 10 matches. In fact, the Alevín C team haven’t suffered a loss since the first fixture of the season. They will have the opportunity to improve on that this weekend with a trip to Zalla.

Portugalete 4-6 Athletic Alevín D

Alirón 2008 made it 10 straight wins on Saturday, pulling off a difficult 6-4 victory over hosts Portugalete. It was one of the hardest games of the season, but the Katxorros showed the ability to battle through adversity. The Alevín D team have yet to lose a match all year, with only one draw, and will have to be at their best again this Saturday when they welcome Gaztelueta to Lezama.

Barrika 2-6 Athletic Alevín E

Athletic Alevín E have responded well to their loss against Gatika at the beginning of February. After a draw with Karabigane and a huge 10-0 win over Lagun Artea, they came into the weekend building momentum. On Saturday they traveled to Barrika where the Katxorros came away with hard-fought 6-2 victory and will now turn their attention to Mungia who will visit Lezama next weekend.
