Aritz Aduriz Returns To Training At Lezama After 2 Month Absence
Aritz Aduriz’s return is just around the corner. After suffering a knee injury on 10 January in a Copa del Rey game against Sevilla, the 38-year-old was finally able to rejoin his teammates in training at Lezama on Monday. It’s been two long months of recovery for the striker who has openly said that he has a “crazy desire to return” and it won’t be long now until he is back on the field.
Over the weekend Aduriz was able to perform specific workouts with Xabier Clemente and it was determined that he could finally return to training. Of course, the club is being cautious with the striker and taking things slowly. He will not be in the squad for Saturday’s match against Atlético Madrid, but with the international break following he could very well be in the team for the next league game against Girona on 29 March.
Getting Aduriz back will give Gaizka Garitano another important weapon to tackle the rest of the season. Athletic are currently 5 points off of 7th place and could seriously challenge for European qualification if they continue to play well. Having Aduriz available will certainly help that cause and make the Lions even more dangerous.
Along with Aduriz, Iñigo Lekue and Oihan Sancet have both returned to training as well. Lekue is available to Garitano, although a decision has yet to be made in reference to Sancet. The 18-year-old could stay with the first team or play with Bilbao Athletic once he is cleared to be on the field again. Ander Capa is the only player who wasn’t able to train on Monday. The right-back is still recovering from a strained hamstring and is expected to be back with his teammates during the international break.
