Ander Iturraspe Linked With A Move To Leeds This Summer
Joining Lezama at the age of 10, Aner Iturraspe has spent the last 20 years at Athletic. He’s been a one-club man and has made 319 appearances for the Zurigorri, but life has changed a lot over the last few years. In recent seasons the 30-year-old has struggled for minutes, featuring mainly in Cup games and when others are unavailable, and it now appears as though he will be leaving this summer.
Iturraspe’s contract is set to expire in June and the club has shown no signs of offering him a renewal. In fact, some reports claim that Athletic have already made the decision to let the midfielder leave this summer. If that does happen he will have a very big decision to make and he will have plenty of offers to continue his career elsewhere.
According to a report from Javier Beltrán of AS, Leeds have shown interest in signing the midfielder this summer which would see Iturraspe reunited with former Athletic manager Marcelo Bielsa. Iturraspe played his best football under the Argentine and could enjoy an important role in the English side, especially if they earn promotion to the Premier League.
Whether or not Iturraspe will accept the offer remains to be seen. Beltrán goes on to say that the midfielder could also choose to hang up his boots and retire from football as an Athletic player. However, the opportunity to prove himself still capable of playing at a high level is also alluring. Athletic has been Ander Iturraspe’s life since he was a child and, whether he chooses to retire or wear another shirt, saying goodbye to his boyhood club won’t be easy.
