Athletic Club Announce Friendly Against Eibar During International Break
Athletic have two more matches before the international break begins and these games could define the rest of the season. The Lions currently sit 3 points off of 7th place and if they can get good results against Espanyol and Atlético Madrid they could be in the middle of the European discussion. Regardless of how the upcoming fixtures play out, the team will look for ways to keep their rhythm during the stoppage.
On Wednesday Athletic officially announced that they will be playing Eibar in a friendly game at Lezama during the international break. The game will take place on Thursday, 21 March at 11:00am, however it will not be open to the public. This isn’t a new thing for the Basques who also played friendlies against other clubs during stoppages earlier this season while Eduardo Berizzo was the manager.
Kenan Kodro will be unavailable due to being called up to the Bosnia and Herzegovina National Team and there is a chance that others will miss out as well. Players such as Yeray and Iñigo Martinez could be named in the Spain squad, but that remains to be seen. With Athletic facing Girona just 8 days later Garitano will likely look to keep the team fresh while also not risking his key players too much.
