Bilbao Athletic Defeat Aurrera 2-1 In Friendly At Zaldupe
It’s been a difficult season for Bilbao Athletic. After seeing Gaizka Garitano become the new manager of the first team. Aritz Solabarrieta was promoted to the position and the team has faced some struggled. While the Katxorros are unbeaten at home under Solabarrieta, they’ve also lost every game on the road. That finally changed this week, albeit in a friendly match.
The Kumeak traveled to Ondarroa on Tuesday for a friendly against Aurrera from Spain’s Tercera. The game was played at Zaldupe and gave several players from CD Basconia and the Juvenil A team the chance to compete together for Bilbao Athletic. Unai Pérez, Rudi, Salvador, Rodrigo, Arrieta, San Bartolomé, Estrada, Muñoz, Morcillo, Córdoba and Azcona formed the starting lineup with De Miguel, Barruetabeña, Laka, Cabo and Villalibre all coming off the bench.
Aurrera took the lead in the 41st minute, but Bilbao Athletic answered back in the second half. Goals from Jon Morcillo and Asier Córdoba led the team to a 2-1 victory on a night that was full of good spirits and excitements. Armed with some positive energy, Bilbao Athletic will get back to preparing for this weekend’s trip to Mirandés where they will try to win their first match away from Lezama in months.
