Bilbao Athletic celebrate one of Gaizka Larrazabal’s goal (Zabaleta)

Bilbao Athletic 2-2 Real Sociedad

The home and away split under Aritz Solabarrieta has finally come to an end. Since the managerial change in December, Bilbao Athletic have won every game at Lezama and lost every game on the road. The Katxorros faced a huge test on Saturday when they welcomed Real Sociedad for the Basque Derby and Gaizka Larrazabal scored in the opening minute to stun the visitors. La Real equalized through a penalty 15 minutes later before Larrazabal added a second just before the break. With just 9 minutes left to play, Zourdine scored to level the score at 2-2 which would stand until the final whistle. Bilbao Athletic will try to get their first positive result on the road next weekend, but it won’t be easy. On Sunday they will travel to face off with 2nd placed Mirandés.

CD Basconia 1-4 San Ignacio (Ewan Urain)

Basconia’s 9 game unbeaten streak finally came to an end on Saturday when they fell 4-1 to visitors San Ignacio. The Basauritarras found themselves down 2-0 until Ewan Urain pulled one back in the 61st minute, his 9th goal of the season. San Ignacio would then find the back of the net two more times before hearing the final whistle. The defeat sees Basconia fall to 8th in the table, bust still just 2 points off of 4th place. They will be back at home Sunday to host 12th place Santurtzi.

Athletic Juvenil A 4-2 Real Sociedad

It was a very difficult start to the season for Athletic Juvenil A who spent several months in the middle of the table. That finally appears to be a thing of the past as the Katxorros have now gone five games unbeaten and have only lost twice in their last 10 matches. On Sunday they played host to league leaders Real Sociedad and came away with a massive 4-2 victory at Lezama. Alejandro Ibarrondo netted a brace, Josu Juste added a goal of his own, and La Real scored an own goal in the big win. Taking the three points moved Athletic into 7th and just 8 points off of the top four. Another test looms large on Sunday as the Juvenil A team will travel to face off with 2nd placed Numancia.

Koldo Ferrer and Nico Serrano both found the back of the net as the Kumeak took all 3 points in a 2-1 win. Athletic now hold a 6 point lead over Real Sociedad at the top of the league table and will have the chance to extend it even more on Sunday when they host Arenas Club at Lezama.

Athletic Cadete A 3-2 Eibar

Like the Juvenil A team, Athletic’s Cadete A also appear to have turned things around after a disastrous start to the season. The Katxorros won their 4th straight match on Saturday, defeating 2nd placed Eibar 3-2 at Lezama. Athletic are now just one point off of 4th placed which is held by Antiguoko.
