Ander Capa Will Miss 2-3 Weeks With Left Hamstring Strain
Ander Capa has been one of the most important players for Athletic since Gaizka Garitano took over as manager. Now the team will have to do without the 27-year-old who suffered a hamstring injury in his left leg during Friday’s training session. At the time the club announced that he had been diagnosed with a mild-moderate hamstring strain, but Garitano gave more information during Saturday’s pregame press conference.
“Ander will be out for 2-3 weeks because he has a strained hamstring”, the manager explained. “We will lose him for the next few weeks, two or three weeks. We’ll see if he can be back for Atlético or after the international break.” Capa has already been ruled out for Sunday’s match against Valencia and the following game against Espanyol. If he can’t return against Atlético Madrid on 16 March the defender would then have the entire international break to finish his recovery.
Even though Capa will be unavailable for a few weeks Garitano isn’t worried. “When one player is missing I see it as an opportunity for someone else”, he immediately said. “Everyone has injuries and when someone is missing someone else has to step up. I have no complaints because it can also be a positive thing. I have a lot of confidence in everyone I have in the squad.”
With Ander Capa out the starting right-back role will go to Oscar De Marcos who has also been in great form this season. However, the 29-year-old is just one booking away from facing a suspension which would leave Garitano in a difficult situation. Iñigo Lekue, the only other right-back in the squad, has yet to play this season and should be returning to training soon after undergoing lower back surgery.
