Bilbao Athletic Continue To Struggle On The Road With 2-1 Loss To Logroñés
Bilbao Athletic have had a rough time away from home since Aritz Solabarrieta took over as the manager in December. The Katxorros have lost every single game on the road since the coaching change in early December, but they had another chance to fix that when they traveled to Logroñés on Saturday.
With Iñigo Vicente suspended others needed to step up for the team to get a good result. That exactly what Asier Benito did, opening the scoring in the 14th minute after heading home an assist from Asier Villalibre. The forward continued his fine form after scoring a hat trick last weekend. Everything seemed to be working in Bilbao Athletic’s favor, but that wouldn’t last forever.
Logroñés equalized in the 38th minute with a goal from Noño and the two sides went into the break level at 1-1. In the second half minutes passed by and it looked as though the game was headed for a draw, which would have been the first positive result outside of Lezama. However, Logroñés were able to score the winner four minutes into stoppage time to send Bilbao Athletic home empty handed once again.
This was the second straight time the Katxorros conceded a stoppage time winner on the road and the loss saw the team cemented in the middle of the table. Bilbao Athletic will end the weekend 7 points off of the last promotional playoff spot, but they will have to start adding points outside of Lezama if they are going to challenge for the top four. Luckily, Bilbao Athletic have won every single game at home under Solabarrieta, however they will face their biggest test yet when they host Real Sociedad on Saturday.
