Iñigo Vicente Still Recovering From Thigh Injury, Will Miss Logroñés Match Due To Suspension
Bilbao Athletic’s 4-1 win over Real Oviedo last weekend was the team’s best performance since Aritz Solabarrieta took over as manager back in early December. The defense was solid, the midfield controlled the game, and the forwards were deadly. Asier Benito scored three goals and assisted on the second, but once again it was Iñigo Vicente who provided the magic every time he touched the ball.
During stoppage time Vicente noticed discomfort in his right thigh and quickly went down to the ground. He received medical treatment on the sidelines and then went to the bench for further evaluation. Once the final whistle sounded he walked with his teammates through the tunnel under his own power. It didn’t seem like anything serious, but the attacker did miss a few training sessions earlier this week.
The team is still looking for their first positive result on the road under Solabarrieta and having Vicente available would be a huge boost, but he will not be able to play. Even if he was fully cleared to play, which may actually be the case at this point, he was also shown his fifth yellow card of the season against Real Oviedo and will now be suspended for one game.
It will be up to the manager to choose who will take Vicente’s place in the lineup. Bilbao Athletic’s depth has been an issue at times this season with the likes of Oihan Sancet, Gorka Pérez, Iñigo Baqué, Aitor Seguin, and Jon Sillero all injured at the moment. Solabarrieta will have to put together the perfect plan to get a good result at Logroñés if the Katxorros are going to seriously challenge for the promotional playoffs moving forward.
