Aitor Larrazabal Praises His Son’s Development At Bilbao Athletic
Aitor Larrazabal is one of the best left-backs to have ever played for Athletic. After growing up at Lezama he established himself as a starter in the first team, appearing in over 300 games for the Zurigorri. After retiring he returned to Lezama as a youth coach before eventually taking over at Marbella. In 2016 he became the manager of Amorebieta and would leave the following year for Barakaldo where he has brought huge success.
Barakaldo currently sit in 4th place in the league table which would qualify them for the promotional playoffs. Interestingly enough, Larrazabal isn’t just coaching in a league against Bilbao Athletic, he’s doing so against his own son. Gaizka Larrazabal joined the Katxorros in the summer of 2017 and has grown quite a bit since making the move to Lezama.
“He has power and speed which are very good things for a winger”, Aitor said in a recent interview when asked to analyze his son’s performance this season. “The start of the season has been very good. I think he has 7 goals already and 11 assists. I think he’s doing well and he’s eager to take a step in football. Proof of this is that he has received interest from other clubs, including one in the Primera.”
Still just 21 years old, Gaizka Larrazabal has shown the ability to create chances and score goals while playing as a winger for Bilbao Athletic. He’s taken a huge step forward in his development during his second year at Lezama and if he continues on this path he could get the chance to train with the first team during the summer.
