Yuri Berchiche, Beñat, And Markel Susaeta Miss Recovery Session At Lezama
After returning home from a demanding match against Huesca at the Estadio El Alcoraz, the Athletic players were back in training at Lezama on Tuesday at noon. As expected, it was used mainly as a recovery session with the previous night’s starters all working out for about 30 minutes, under the guidance of physical trainers, before leaving the field. However, a few players were missing.
Yuri Berchiche, Beñat, and Markel Susaeta were all absent from Tuesday’s session. It isn’t the first time this has happened this season. Berchiche and Beñat were both kept out of training following last weekend’s draw against Barcelona. It was later confirmed that Berchiche had become a father, but Beñat was dealing with some discomfort in his right thigh. The club has not issued any medical report which suggests that they missed out in order to rest or out of precaution. Aritz Aduriz was also missing from the session while Iñigo Lekue did some supervised running drills.
The rest of the team was on the training field for over an hour with the goalkeepers getting a lot of work with long shots with silhouettes in the way. Eventually the session ended with games of seven-on-seven. The players will have the day off on Wednesday but will be back at Lezama to begin preparing for Saturday’s Basque Derby against Eibar at the San Mamés.
