7 Lezama Starlets Named In The Initial Fútbol Draft Top 132 Youth Players List
The Fútbol Draft has been recognizing the top youth players in Spain since its inception back in 2006. Every year a team of Spanish National Team youth coaches and academy experts meet to form an initial list of 132 players which is then trimmed to 77, then to 55, then to a Golden XI, Silver XI, and Bronze XI. The first committee meeting was held on Tuesday morning at the RFEF headquarters in Las Rozas and seven players from Lezama were included.
Peru Nolaskoain, Iñigo Vicente, Jon Sillero, Unai Vencedor, Victor San Bartolomé, Asier Córdoba, and Aitor Paredes have all been named in the group of 132 and will now wait to see if they make the next cut. The list will be trimmed to 77 in the following committee meeting which will take place at some point in the near future.
Lezama has long been one of the top youth academies in Spain, and one of the most praised in European football. It’s always fantastic to see promising young players from Lezama recognized and these seven are certainly very special. They all have the quality and potential to reach the first team one day if they continue to work hard and develop.
The Fútbol Draft Committee is chaired by former Athletic player and coach Iñaki Sáez. Other former Athletic players include Julen Guerrero, now the Spain U16 coach, and Luis de la Fuente, who is currently coaching the Spain U21 team. The rest of the committee is comprised of the remaining Spain youth coaches as well as several youth football experts such as Aritz Gabilondo.
