Iñigo Martinez And Raúl García Pleased With Challenging Win Over Huesca
Monday’s match against Huesca may not have been great performance from Athletic, but it was enough to earn a 1-0 victory and take all three points. Iñigo Martinez earned the penalty that led to Athletic’s goal and after the match he admitted that it wasn’t easy. Still, he believes the team should be even higher in the standings.
“Every time we looked up we took a blow. When you relax, you pay for it. We have to be ambitious. We always have been. This team deserves to be higher in the table. The first commandment is defending, knowing that from there you will have chances to score, which has been the case. This win will give us an important boost.”
Raúl García converted the penalty which proved to be the winning goal at El Alcoraz. “The team is doing very well”, he told Gol TV. “We’ve come from a very difficult situation and we have to learn from experiences like this. I’m not thinking beyond the next game. Every single match is complicated and winning is difficult in this league.”
Talking about possible qualifying for Europe has become a taboo subject for Athletic and the players refuse to discuss the topic. Manager Gaizka Garitano had firmly stated that the Zurigorri will take the rest of the season one game at a time and that it’s dangerous to set long-term goals. On Saturday Athletic will welcome Eibar to the San Mamés where a win would see them move into the top half of the table, but that is as far ahead as the team is looking.
