Aritz Aduriz Hopes To Return This Season And Play Again Next Year
Aritz Aduriz is in a worrying situation. The striker suffered a knee sprain in a Copa del Rey match against Sevilla back in early January and the recovery process hasn’t gone as expected. When examining the injury to see if Aduriz could return to training it was discovered that there was more serious ligament damage and that he would be forced to miss another 4-5 weeks. Even worse news has followed.
Two days ago it was reported that Aduriz is in danger of missing the rest of the season. The ligament damage is severe and avoiding surgery will require a longer absence for natural recovery. Of course, the future of his career was brought into question. At 38 years old it is very possible that this could lead to his retirement, especially if he can’t return this season. However, Aduriz is hoping that isn’t the case.
On Sunday Javier Beltrán confirmed the severity of the injury in a report for AS, but there was more. He went on to say that Aduriz aims to play again this season and again next year. Athletic have already offered the striker a one-year contract extension and it will be up to him to decide whether or not to renew.
Aduriz has been working hard to return as quickly as possible. Along with his conservative treatment, he has been regularly coming to Lezama to work with trainers and having hyperbaric chamber sessions at the Indautxu Clinic. The injury is serious and there is no way to predict what will happen in the future, but Aritz Aduriz doesn’t want to be finished and if he has it his way he will continue playing.
