Beñat And Yuri Berchiche Return To Training Ahead Of Huesca Clash

Beñat has returned to training and is cleared to play against Huesca (AS)

After a demanding game against Barcelona over the weekend Athletic are now preparing to travel to El Alcaraz for an important game against Huesca. Gaizka Garitano will be without Dani García and Oscar De Marcos who are both suspended, but there was concern that he would have to make do without a few other key players as well. Thankfully, that won’t be the case.

Beñat and Yuri Berchiche have both been out of training this week and finally returned during Thursday’s session. Berchiche was given permission to miss because he just became a father, but Beñat’s situation was more concerning. The midfielder has been dealing with discomfort in his right thigh which now appears to have subsided. Sources say that he is expected to play on Monday night and being back in training is certainly a good sign.

Unai Nuñez was forced to leave Monday’s training session early after noticing pain in his hip. The defender tried to carry on but eventually went to talk with Dr. Angulo who sent him inside the sports facilities. Nuñez would be back training normally on Wednesday and has been completely fine since. Others who have been carrying minor issues such as Peru Nolaskoain are also doing well and available for the Huesca clash.

As expected, Aritz Aduriz and Iñigo Lekue were the only two players to miss training on Thursday. Aduriz is still recovering from a badly sprained knee and will still be out for a few more months, while Lekue hasn’t completely recovered from his recent lower back surgery. The team will be back at Lezama on Friday where Garitano will continue putting together his game plan to take all three points on Monday night.
