Kenan Kodro “It’s A Special Day That I Will Never Forget”
Kenan Kodro may not have had much time to make an impact on the game when he came on for Iñaki Williams late in the second half against Barcelona, but it was still a special debut. The striker spoke with Athletic TV after the game and said that he was going to frame his shirt and that he was very thankful for the great reception from the fans at the San Mamés.
“I am grateful to the coach and very happy for the reception of the fans. It’s a special day that I will never forget and I’m going to frame my shirt. The Mister told me to run onto balls, work hard, and help the team. I really wanted to make my debut and, in truth, I wasn’t thinking it would happen until the Huesca game. Now I have to keep working and repay the confidence of the coach and the fans.”
Integrating into a new team always takes time, but Kodro says that the squad at Athletic have helped him adapt quickly. Now that he’s made his debut he’s focused on helping contribute to the team as much as possible and repaying the faith shown in him by the coach and the club.
“Adapting to any team takes time, but this is a good group. I knew many of the players before coming. They have been working together for many years and they are making things very easy for me in training. I’m looking forward to working hard every day, fighting for every ball, and showing why I was brought here. That is the only way to give back everything the club has given me, to do my best in training and on the field. I know I’m wearing Toquero’s number. He’s a special player here and fans remember him well. I hope to contribute what he did to the team.”
Turning his attention to the match against Barcelona, Kodro praised Athletic’s overall performance. “It was a very good match by the entire team”, the striker said. “A point against Barcelona is always a positive result. We were able to win, but the point is a positive thing in the league.” Now Athletic will turn their attention to Monday night’s fixture against Huesca which could see the Zurigorri climb as high as 10th in the La Liga table with a victory.
