Dani García And Oscar De Marcos Face Suspensions For Bookings Against Barcelona
Athletic had chances to win Sunday’s match against Barcelona and although they didn’t pull off the victory, a draw against the league leaders is always a good result. Now the Lions will start preparing for Monday night’s fixture against Huesca, but they will have to do so without two key players.
Dani García was shown a yellow card in the 52nd minute for a foul on Lionel Messi which was his 10th booking of the season. He will now have to serve a one game suspension which rules him out for the match against Huesca. Mikel San José will be expected to start in his place and form a partnership alongside Beñat which has proved successful this season.
Oscar De Marcos was booked in the 68th minute for a foul on Philippe Coutinho, however it wouldn’t be his only one. The right-back was shown a second yellow during stoppage time when the ball struck the back of his right shoulder while he was running down the sideline. The referee ruled it a handball much to the frustration of the Athletic players and the sending off means that the 29-year-old is facing a two-match suspension because the first booking was his 5th of the season.
Athletic are expected to appeal the second booking as De Marcos did not intentionally touch the ball and because it didn’t even strike his hand or arm. If the club wins the appeal the second yellow card would be taken away which would also remove one suspension, but he will have to serve the other against Huesca. That being said, the league very rarely rescinds bookings so there is no guarantee that De Marcos will see the decision changed. Either way, Ander Capa will start at right-back once again with someone else chosen to play on the right wing.
