Unai Simón Misses Training, Peru Nolaskoain Leaves With Injury
After having the last few days off following Saturday’s demanding Basque Derby loss, Athletic were back in training on Tuesday in a session that was open to the public. The Lions are already working hard to prepare for their game against Barcelona on Sunday and manager Gaizka Garitano will have some difficult decisions to make with a few players set to miss the game. That list may even be growing.
Unai Simón missed Tuesday’s training altogether, although it wasn’t necessarily a surprise. Hours before kickoff against Real Sociedad the club announced that Alex Remiro had traveled with the team because Simón was dealing with pain in his right knee. In the end the 21-year-old made the bench but he was kept out of training entirely on Tuesday which puts his status for Sunday’s match in question.
Meanwhile, Peru Nolaskoain was forced to withdraw from the training session with discomfort in his right thigh. The issue had been bother him last week and kept him from traveling with the first team and competing with Bilbao Athletic, but until now he had never been forced to miss training. The club will likely perform more tests to learn the extend of the injury with hopes that it isn’t anything serious.
As expected Aritz Aduriz and Iñigo Lekue did not train either. The striker is set to miss roughly 5 more weeks with a sprained knee while the right-back is still recovering from lower back surgery. New signing Kenan Kodro enjoyed another training session with the team and is expected to be in the squad list for Sunday’s game against Barcelona at the San Mamés.
