Lezama Weekend Recap: Streaks Extended And Streaks Ended

Bilbao Athletic 2-1 Leioa

Bilbao Athletic were facing a difficult challenge just five minutes into the game when Dani Vivian was shown a straight red card. The team were already without several key player due to injuries, but they continued to attack. Goals from Asier Villalibre and Asier Benito had the Katxorros up 2-0 after just 25 minutes and they were able to play impressive defense to hold their lead. Leioa managed to pull once back in the second half but it wasn’t enough as Bilbao Athletic picked up all three points in the 2-1 victory and will now prepare to travel to Gernika on Saturday.

CD Basconia 2-2 Portugalete

CD Basconia have now extended their unbeaten streak to six games following Sunday’s 2-2 draw with league leaders Portugalete. Beñat Prados opened up the scoring after just six minutes and the visitors answered back before the half hour mark. Julen Bernaola then converted a penalty in the 36th minute before Portugalete equalized in the second half. Neither side was able to find a winner, but the one point to keep the team in 7th place, just 5 points off of the promotional playoff zone of the table. Next up is a road trip to Santutxu on Sunday.

Valvanera 1-4 Athletic Juvenil A

Athletic’s Juvenil A team snapped their two game winless streak on Saturday when the defeated hosts Valvanera 4-1. Jon Guruzeta scored the first goal in the opening minute of the game followed by a strike from Josu Juste just after the half hour mark. Guruzeta would add his second right after the halftime break before Valvanera pulled one back. Ander Lorente would finish the game with a goal in the 89th minute, giving Athletic a 4-1 win and three important points. The team will be back in action on Sunday when they host Txantrea at Lezama.

Athletic Juvenil B 1-0 Arrupe Chaminade

Nico Serrano continues to score goals and is proving to everyone why he is one of the best young wingers in all of Spain. On Saturday his strike led Athletic’s Juvenil B team to a 1-0 win over Arrupe Chaminade, their sixth straight victory in league play. The Katxorros now hold a 3 point lead at the top of the table and will try to add to it on Sunday when they travel to Antiguoko.

Tolosa 0-1 Athletic Cadete A

It’s been a tough year for Athletic’s Cadete A team who have spent the entire season in the middle of the table. On Saturday they put an end to their two game losing streak with a 1-0 win on the road against Tolosa. The lone goal was scored by Erlantz Palacín and now the team will have the chance to build on their momentum when they host Danok Bat at Lezama on Sunday.

Athletic Cadete B 3-1 Amorebieta

Athletic’s Cadete B team have been in fantastic form since losing their first game of the season two weekends ago. On Saturday the Katxorros defeated Amorebieta 3-1 at Lezama and have now taken back the top spot in the table with the 2 point lead over Leioa. They will be back at home again on Sunday when they host Barakaldo in another big match.

Athletic’s Infantil A team defeated the Infantil B team at Lezama (AC)

Athletic Infantil B 1-8 Athletic Infantil A

In a unique league match both Athletic Infantil A and Infantil B faced off on Thursday and the result wasn’t much of a surprise. The Infantil A side remained perfect by winning 8-1 while the Infantil B side suffered their second straight defeat. Things will get back to normal this weekend with the Infantil A team hosting Getxo. The Infantil B team will try to snap their losing streak with a trip to Abadiño.

Athletic Infantil C 0-1 Baskonia

Alirón 2006 suffered their third straight loss on Saturday when they fell 1-0 to Baskonia at Lezama. The Infantil C team have only managed to score one goal throughout this losing streak and will be hoping to get things back on track Saturday when they travel to Cultural Durango.

Galdakao 0-5 Athletic Alevín A

San Mamés 2007 finally put an end to their four game winless streak as the defeated hosts Galdakao 5-0 over the weekend. It was a much needed result for the team who had enjoyed a strong start to the season.

Athletic Alevín B 3-1 Arenas

Alirón 2007 made it two straight wins on Saturday when they hosted Arenas at Lezama and secured a 3-1 victory. It was their fifth victory in their last six games for a team that has been in spectacular form.

Athletic Alevín C 12-2 Retuerto Sport

San Mamés 2008 made it five straight wins on Saturday when they beat Retuerto Sport 12-2 at Lezama. Other than their loss in the first game of the season the Alevín C team has been perfect.

Zazpi Landa 3-13 Athletic Alevín D

Six straight wins now for Alirón 2008 who defeated hosts Zazpi Landa 13-3 on Saturday. Other than one draw earlier this year the Alevín D team has been perfect and playing great football.

Gatika 7-3 Athletic Alevín E

All good things must come to an end. After spending the entire year winning every single game the Athletic Alevín E finally suffered their first defeat, falling 7-3 to hosts Gatika. With their 10 game winning streak now over they will look to start another one on Saturday when they host Karabigane at Lezama.
