Lezama Weekend Update: CD Basconia And Juvenil B Continue Impressive Streaks
Amorebieta 3-2 Bilbao Athletic
Bilbao Athletic’s home and away form continued on Saturday when they traveled to Amorebieta. Gaizka Larrazabal gave the Katxorros an early 1-0 lead but the hosts were awarded two penalties before halftime and converted both. Larrazabal pulled the score level in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as Amorebieta found the third and won the match 3-2. It was the fourth straight loss on the road under manager Aritz Solabarrieta and saw the team drop to 9th in the table. They will look to climb the standing on Sunday when they host Leioa at Lezama.
Sestao River 2-2 CD Basconia
Iban Fuentes has led Basconia to a four game winning streak and that was put to the test on Sunday when they traveled to face off with second place Sestao River. The hosts would convert an early penalty to take the lead but Ewan Urain would score a header in the 36th minute to drawl level. Just 10 minutes into the second half Xabi Arberas would give Basconia a 2-1 lead before Sestao River equalized in the 81st minute. The match would finish in a 2-2 draw, which ended Basconia’s winning streak, but taking a point at Las Llanas is always a good result and they are still unbeaten in their last 5 fixtures. The Katxorros are now just one point off of the promotional playoff zone of the table and will host league leaders Portugalete on Sunday.
Athletic Juvenil A 2-2 Antiguoko
Coming off of a disappointing loss to Osasuna in Pamplona last weekend it was important for Athletic’s Juvenil A team to get a positive result on Saturday when they hosted Antiguoko. It was always going to be a difficult match and the Katxorros found that out quickly as Antiguoko took a 2-0 first half lead. Thankfully, Jon Guruzeta scored a brace in the second half to level the score and from there neither side was able to break the deadlock. The game ended in a 2-2 draw which kept Athletic in 10th place in the table. The team will be on the road against Valvanera for their next game on Saturday.
Hernani 2-5 Athletic Juvenil B
The Athletic Juvenil B team made it 5 straight wins on Sunday when they traveled to take on Hernani. Iñigo Gomeza, Nico Serrano, Beñat Gerenabarrena, Mikel Mendibe, and Nico Williams all found the back of the net to pick up an important 3 points which has also given the team a 3 point lead over Real Sociedad at the top of the league table. It’s already been such an impressive season for the team who will be back in action on Sunday against last place Arrupe Chaminade at Lezama.
Athletic Cadete A 2-4 Romo
It’s been a difficult year for the Athletic Cadete A team who have found it hard to win matches. On Saturday they hosted Romo at Lezama in what turned out to be yet another challenging fixture. The Katxorros were able to score two goals but had trouble defending Romo attacks as the game ended in a 4-2 loss. It was Athletic’s second straight loss and third consecutive game without a victory. They will try to put things back on track on Sunday when they travel to Tolosa.
Balmaseda 1-6 Athletic Cadete B
Athletic Cadete B lost their first game of the season last weekend and were determined to respond in a big way when they traveled to Balmaseda. They wouldn’t be happy with anything other than a big win and that’s exactly what they got, defeating their hosts 6-1 on Sunday. Athletic trail league leaders Leioa by just one point and will try to take control of the table on Sunday when they host Amorebieta at Lezama.
Athletic Infantil A 7-0 Abadiño
After 13 games this season the Athletic Infantil A team are still perfect with 13 wins. The Katxorros defeated Abadiño 7-0 at Lezama on Saturday to secure another three points and extend their already impressive lead at the top of the league table. Not only has the team won every game this year, they’ve now have 9 straight clean sheets and boast a +100 goal difference on the season. Their next game will actually be against Athletic’s Infantil B team on Saturday at Lezama.
Santutxu 1-0 Athletic Infantil B
Speaking of the Athletic Infantil B team, they were in action on Saturday in a road game against Santutxu and suffered a 1-0 defeat. It was their third straight loss away from home, but they’ve also won their last two games at Lezama and will try to keep that winning streak alive as they are technically the home team for Saturday’s match against the Athletic Infantil A team.
Montefuerte 2-1 Athletic Infantil C
Alirón 2006, Athletic’s Infantil C team, played their second straight game on the road with the same outcome as last weekend. The Katxorros fell 2-1 to hosts Montefuerte with Gillem Atutxa scoring the team’s only goal and will now look to end their losing streak on Saturday when they host Baskonia at Lezama.
Athletic Alevín A 1-7 Santutxu
San Mamés 2007 suffered a 7-1 defeat against Santutxu which extended their winless streak to four straight games. It was a difficult game at Lezama and the Alevín A team will try to secure an important win on Saturday when they travel to Galdakao.
Indautxu 2-3 Athletic Alevín B
Alirón 2007 saw their three game winning streak put to an end last weekend in a 3-0 loss to Lagun Artea and were determined to respond in a big way on the road against Indautxu. It was a tight game between two strong sides but the Katxorros were able to come away with a 3-2 victory. They will now have the chance to build on their momentum Saturday with a match against Arenas Club at Lezama.
Pauldarrak 0-10 Athletic Alevín C
For the 4th straight game San Mamés 2008 scored at least 10 goals and for the 4th straight game it ended in a victory. The Alevín C team defeated hosts Pauldarrak 10-0 and will be back at Lezama on Saturday for a match against Retuerto Sport.
Athletic Alevín D 11-5 Derio Arteaga
It’s now 5 straight wins for Alirón 2008 who defeated Derio Arteaga 11-5 at Lezama. Other than the team’s draw against Gaztelueta earlier this season Athletic Alevín D have been perfect and are playing sensational football. Next up is a road trip on Saturday against Zazpi Landa.
Athletic Alevín E 10-1 Bermeo
Now draws, no losses, just 9 wins from 9 games for the Athletic Alevín E team and over the weekend they made it 10 wins with a 10-1 victory over Bermeo. Boasting a +54 goal difference the Katxorros will continue to chase perfection on Saturday with a trip to Gatika.
