Aitor Elizegi Calls Athletic’s Upcoming Game Against Real Betis “A Great Match For The Primera”
Athletic Club President Aitor Elizegi was in attendance for Bilbao Athletic’s match against Amorebieta on Saturday at Urritxe. He has regularly shared his hope to see football continue to grow in Bizkaia and wants to have a great relationship with other clubs in the area. He praised Amorebieta as one of the historic clubs in Bizkaia and hopes to see them escape relegation this season.
“Hopefully this is the beginning of a serious, firm, and loyal relationship. The Athletic project would not be understood without the base football of Bizkaia and, of course, Amorebieta which is a great club with a lot of history. That’s the way it should continue. It’s our obligation to be on the fields where the bulk of Athletic’s first team is born. I am convinced that we will both be at this level next year. Bilbao Athletic needs to continue growing and becoming bigger at this level.”
The President was also asked about his thoughts on Sunday’s game against Real Betis and Elizegi was quick to say that it will be a great fixture for the entire league. He expects the fans to make the San Mamés roar just like they did against Sevilla and if that happens he knows the players will respond with a strong performance.
“It’s a great match for the Primera. We know that Betis like playing at the San Mamés, but Athletic likes playing at the San Mamés much more. I am convinced that we are going to try to repeat the game that we played against Sevilla. The communication between the club and the fans was great. Surely those who are on the pitch will pull together with the fans again for this important game, a game to remember.”
Athletic have beaten Real Betis in the last five game between the two clubs at the San Mamés, but that means very little right now. Betis have been one of the best teams in La Liga and it’s going to take a great showing from the Lions if they are going to take all three points and continue their unbeaten run under Gaizka Garitano.
