Alex Remiro Reportedly Decides Not To Renew With Athletic And Will Leave In The Summer
When Aitor Elizegi won the Athletic Presidency back in December he put a priority on several different topics, including trying to convince Alex Remiro to sign a renewal. The goalkeeper had previous told the club that he would not negotiate a new contract but Elizegi convinced him to hold talks again. It finally seems as though a decision has been made.
According to a report from Alberto Santacruz of Oye Athletic, Remiro has made the decision not to renew and to leave Athletic at the end of the season when his contract expires. With the 23-year-old not signing a new deal he also will not be allowed to leave this month on loan for the rest of the season which had been the keeper’s hope. In short, his situation remains unchanged.
Huesca recently contacted Athletic to express interest in signing Remiro on loan after he helped lead the club to promotion last season. Athletic were willing to entertain the idea if the Lezama graduate penned a new deal, but without that happening they have already informed Huesca that the transfer will not happen. Remiro will continue to train with the team but will not be included in the squad for games and will officially leave the club when his contract expires on 30 June.
