Athletic Club Will Return For Fernando Llorente In The Summer

Fernando Llorente

Fernando Llorente won’t be allowed to leave Tottenham this month (Tottenham)

Bringing back Fernando Llorente this month is no longer a possibility for Athletic Club. The Tottenham striker was once believed to be making his return to the San Mamés, but an ankle injury to Harry Kane and Son Hueng-min leaving for the Asia Cup means that the 33-year-old will have to stay and play heavy minutes in upcoming games. Tottenham have already informed Athletic that they will no longer negotiate the transfer this month which means that the Basques will have to be patient.

According to an exclusive report from Javier Ortiz de Lazcano of El CorreoAthletic will return for Llorente in the summer. The striker’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and although Tottenham do have an option to extend it for another year they aren’t expected to do so unless he plays exceptionally well throughout the next few months. Ibaigane believes that they can still bring the striker back to the club in the summer and doing so for free would be an added bonus.

Llorente has publicly expressed his desire to return to Athletic several times already and may soon have the chance to start negotiating a contract with the Basque giants. It’s no secret that there is a division among fans about whether or not the club should welcome back the Lezama product that left in 2013, but players like Mikel San José and Ander Capa have already shared their desire for Llorente to join the team. Athletic will now have to wait until the summer to see if they can make the signing a reality, but the Board is willing to accept the backlash that would follow if Llorente does returns to the club.
