Athletic Club Reportedly Reject Huesca’s Request To Sign Alex Remiro On Loan
President Aitor Elizegi has made it a priority to sort out the contract drama currently surrounding Alex Remiro. The goalkeeper has yet to even be called up for a game this season as the previous Board of Directors sidelined him due to his refusal to negotiate an extension. Once Elizegi took over he was able to convince the 23-year-old to resume talks, but Remiro’s status in the team hasn’t changed.
Remiro is ready to play in the Primera after showcasing his talent as the best goalkeeper in the Segunda last season while on loan with Huesca who want him back. The newly promoted club tried to sign him on loan again over the summer but his contract situation prevented that from happening. Last week they approached Athletic once again to ask for the signing and have finally been given an answer.
According to an exclusive report from El Correo, Athletic have rejected Huesca’s request and will not be sending the goalkeeper on loan. The only way things could potentially change is if Remiro would sign a renewal which has not happened. At the moment his situation is still the same and his agent is scheduled to meet with Athletic Sporting Director Rafa Alkorta in the coming days to discuss Remiro’s contract and possible extension.
Athletic refuse to let the Lezama graduate leave on loan if he is not going to renew his contract, especially not to join a direct rival in the La Liga table. The goalkeeper is said to still be open to discussing his contract with the new Board of Directors but at the moment there has been no change in his situation at the club.
