Aritz Solabarrieta “We Gave Up Too Many Chances And For That We Suffered”
Bilbao Athletic have yet to win a game on the road under new manager Aritz Solabarrieta and were hoping to change that on Sunday when they visited Tudelano. Asier Benito put the Katxorros ahead early in the first half but the team allowed three goals in the second half and were only able to pull one back as they fell 3-2. Afterwards Solabarrieta admitted that Bilbao Athletic were not organized and gave up too many chances.
“After twenty minutes into the first half we were very good. We scored the opening goal and created chances to score some more. In the second half Tudelano were superior. We messed up but still could have won the game. At the root of the issue we began to defend poorly. We gave up too many chances and for that we suffered. There was a lack of clarity and more individual actions.”
Solabarrieta went on to say that the team did some things well, but can’t continue making mistakes if they want to get better results. He also stated that Tudelano deserved the three points.
“We were doing things right, but we also made mistakes which decided the game. Their goal came early in the second half and we were unable to get back the control of the game that we had until then. They won the game fairly.”
Bilbao Athletic are now preparing for their next game which will take place at Lezama with Gimnástica visiting on Saturday. The first meeting ended in a scoreless draw but the Katxorros are determined to pick up 3 important points and continue climbing the table. As has been the case all season, the goal is to qualify for the promotional playoffs.
