Cristian Ganea has left Athletic in search of regular minutes and has been loaned to Numancia in Spain second division. The move was announced on Wednesday and the 26-year-old was officially presented as a Numancia player during a press conference on Thursday. Ganea told reporters that he is vert excited about the move and specifically chose Numancia as his destination.

“I’ve come with a lot of enthusiasm. I know this is a very good club and a team that adapts to my style of play, which is why I chose Numancia, because of their fans and what they have told me in the locker room. I wanted to play at Athletic, but the circumstances were not what I thought. I’ve come in search of minutes and to help Numancia finish as high as possible.”

Able to play at left-back and further forward in attack, Ganea is quite versatile. However, he knows that his first goal will be defending well and he aims to do everything he can to help the team be successful for the rest of the season.

“I am 100% healthy and the Mister has asked me to get to know my teammates quickly and play football. He gives me a lot of freedom from the midfield forward, but the first thing will be defending. I feel most comfortable on the side and will do my best to help the team.”

By making the move to Numancia Ganea will be playing with some familiar faces. Unai Medina and Guillermo Fernández both grew up at Lezama and played with Ganea for the Basque Country youth teams when they were younger. Now the trio will try to help Numancia climb the table with the club currently sitting 14th in the standings.
