Lezama Goalkeeper Ibon Ispizua Called Up To The Spain U16 Squad For The Aegean Cup

Ibon Ispizua

Lezama’s Ibon Ispizua has been called up to the Spain U16 team (Zabaleta)

Lezama has been well represented since Julen Guerrero was named the manager of the Spain U16 Team. The club legend hasn’t been shy about calling up deserving young stars from Athletic’s academy and he has done so once again in preparation for the Aegean Cup in Turkey later this month.

The squad list was announced on Tuesday and included Athletic Juvenil B goalkeeper Ibon Ispizua. The 15-year-old joined Lezama back in 2013 at the age of 9 and has followed in the footsteps of many talented goalkeepers before him. He’s continued to develop after making the jump to the Juvenil B team this season and being in the team for the Aegean Cup will give him valuable experience that will help his growth as a player.

Ispizua is having a stellar season at club level, being one of the top players at his position among his age group, and is expected to compete for the starting role at the international tournament. He will join the squad for training in Madrid on Saturday before the team travels to Turkey the following day. Spain will play Albania (14th), Macedonia (15th), and Russia (17th) with the final being held on the 19th if Spain advance that far. Ispizua and his teammates would then return home the next day, 20 January.
