The visitors would eventually be shown a red card and Asier Benito scored his first goal of the season to double the lead before the final whistle. The Katxorros now sit seven points off of the promotional playoff zone of the league table and will be looking to make up ground on Sunday when they travel to Tudelano.

Lagun Onak 1-2 CD Basconia

Saturday was also a big day for CD Basconia who won their second straight game after beating Lagun Onak 2-1 on the road. Ewan Urain opened up the scoring in the 17th minute before completing a brace just seconds into the second half. Lagun Onak would pull one back with 15 minutes left to play but Basconia were able to hold on to the lead to take all three points. The team will be back on the road again on Sunday as they travel to Deusto looking to make it three consecutive wins.

Gernika 2-4 Athletic Cadete A

After a disappointing loss to Alavés to end 2018 Athletic’s Cadete A team wanted to start the New Year with a bang, but would have to do so on the road against a strong Gernika side. Luis Bilbao, Ibai Asenjo, Garrido, and Aaron all found the back of the net as the Katxorros pulled off a convincing 4-2 win to take all three points back home. They will be back in action on Sunday when Getxo visit Lezama.

Cultural Durango 1-1 Athletic Cadete B

Athletic’s Cadete B team were the only ones to play on Sunday in what proved to be a difficult challenge on the road against Cultural Durango. A goal from Aimar Peña helped the Katxorros to a 1-1 draw and Ander Alaña’s side are still unbeaten this season. Athletic still hold a two point lead over Leioa at the top of the league table and will host Astrabuduako at Lezama on Sunday.

All other youth teams are still on Holiday break and will be back in action next weekend.
