Aitor Elizegi Meets With Players And Coaches, Visits Training Sessions At Lezama
Aitor Elizegi has been hard at work since winning the Athletic Club Presidential election. He has already put his Social Committee, headed by himself, and the Sports Committee, headed by Ricardo Hernani, into place and had a very busy day on Saturday with teams returning to training after enjoying the Holiday vacation.
The President first met with the Women’s team and manager Joseba Agirre before their training session started at 11:00am. Elizegi wanted to transmit to everyone that they have the confidence and belief of the new Board of Directors and that he wants to continue growing Women’s football. As long as schedules permit, he would like to have Athletic Femenino play at the San Mamés. He then attended their training session.
Elizegi then held a meeting at Lezama at 4:00pm with those who are currently working at the academy. He wants to get an understanding of how things are going with the youth system as he and Sporting Director Rafa Alkorta analyze the situation before putting any changes into effect.
The Men’s team were scheduled to start training at 6:30pm but first met with the new President who also conveyed his confidence in manager Gaizka Garitano and the entire squad. Elizegi then attended the training session where he watched the team begin preparing for the upcoming La Liga match against Celta Vigo on 7 January at Balaídos.
Mikel Rico continued to train separately from his teammates as he is still nursing an ankle injury while Oihan Sancet was also on the side of the field doing more recovery work following his ACL surgery. Iñigo Lekue, who recently underwent minimally invasive back surgery, and Alex Remiro, who is still dealing with lower back pain, both missed the training session.
