Beñat Prados Has Flourished Since Promotion To CD Basconia
Lezama is full of talented young footballers who are pushed to grow and improve on a daily basis. Everyone has to overcome their own adversity, but it has certainly been a season of challenges for Beñat Prados. The 17-year-old midfielder began the year as the Captain of the Juvenil A team and broke his arm in the first match of the season in a loss to Danok Bat.
Prados would miss the next two months but eventually returned to the field with the Juvenil A team. His time with the squad wouldn’t last long. In late November he was called to train with feeder club CD Basconia and just a few days later he made his professional debut as he started against Zamudio. It would be an unforgettable debut for the starlet.
Despite his age an inexperience Prados flourished in his first performance. He passed the ball well, won back possession, and looked just as strong and comfortable as the rest of his teammates. In the second half the 17-year-old scored a header from a corner kick which helped lead Basconia to an important 3-1 win and he has been a key player in the team ever since.
Prados never returned to the Juvenil A team and is now a fully promoted player for Basconia. He’s made 5 appearances so far and is already carving out a vital role despite his young age. The Lezama graduate has a bright future ahead of him and this season has been called up to play with the Euskadi U18 team and even scored a goal in a 4-0 win on Thursday.
Beñat Prados has always been a leader and one of the best players in his age group. He’s at his best in a defensive midfielder role, but is also exceptional with the ball at his feet and can create chances with great passing. He’s already shown this season that he can overcome adversity and it is only a matter of time before he is promoted to Bilbao Athletic and working to accomplish his dream of playing with the first team.
