Beñat “The Draw Wasn’t A Fair Result”
After a poor performance against Alavés on Monday night Beñat put in a good showing at the San Mamés as Athletic hosted Real Valladolid. The Lions held a 1-0 lead until stoppage time when they surrendered a late goal and the midfielder told reporters that it wasn’t a fair result. The team must continue to improve and add as many points as possible while taking it one game at a time.
“The draw wasn’t a fair result. They had not had a chance until the last minutes. They were lucky to take advantage of that opportunity. Neither team had many chances, but we knew that keeping a clean sheet would give us three points. It’s a pity that the match escaped us this way and it’s not the first time this has happened this season. We have to try to improve. We have to add as many points as possible in these games and if it’s three by three that’s the even better.”
The draw gave Athletic one point which was enough to pull the Basques out of the relegation zone. Now the team will have two weeks to regroup, prepare, and rest ahead of their next game which will take place on 7 January against Celta Vigo at Balaídos. If Athletic can pick up a big win on the road they could climb even higher up the La Liga table and start to put some distance between themselves and the drop zone.
