Ruben Azcona continues to shine for CD Basconia (CDB)

Real Unión 1-0 Bilbao Athletic

Bilbao Athletic suffered their second straight loss on the road as the Katxorros fell 1-0 to Real Unión at Stadium Gal. It hasn’t been a smooth transition under new manager Aritz Solabarrieta but the team will have to chance to pick up important points on 5 January when they host Vitoria at Lezama. For now they sit seven points off of the last promotional playoff spot in the league table.

CD Basconia 2-0 Beasain

CD Basconia ended their three game winless streak on Saturday by beating Beasain 2-0 at home. Ruben Azcona put the team ahead in the 32nd minute and defender Aitor Paredes added the second just a few minutes after halftime. New manager Iban Fuentes now has his first win and will be looking to build on the momentum on 6 January on the road against Lagun Onak.

Getxo 0-2 Athletic Juvenil A

It’s been a difficult year for Athletic’s Juvenil A team and an away trip to Getxo on Saturday guaranteed another tough challenge. The two sides were evenly matched in the first half, but the Katxorros responded after the break to take all three points. Marco Diliberto gave Athletic the lead in the 62nd minute and Diego Fernández doubled the score just nine minutes before the final whistle. The 2-0 win was needed to start building confidence but it won’t get any easier. The team will be back in action on 20 January when they host a very strong Eibar side at Lezama.

They made the trip to Indartsu and came away with all three points in a 2-1 victory. Adrián Trespalacios and Beñat Gerenabarrena were the goalscorers for the Katxorros who now sit just two points off of Real Sociedad at the top of the league table. The team will next host Alavés at Lezama on 6 January with a win potentially moving Athletic to the top of the standings.

Athletic Cadete A 1-2 Alavés

The Athletic Cadete A team couldn’t extend their four game unbeaten streak as they fell 2-1 to Alavés on Saturday with Ibai Asenjo scoring the lone goal. Currently sitting 8th in the table with 24 points, the Katxorros will try to get back on track on 6 January when they travel to Getxo.

Athletic Cadete B 5-2 Danok Bat

What a season it’s been for Athletic’s Cadete B squad. The team hasn’t lost a game all year and extended their lead over Leioa at the top of the league table to 4 points with a 5-2 win over Danok Bat on Saturday. Ibon Sánchez scored a brace while Ekhi Ibarra, Aitor Vega, and Aimar Peña added a goal of their own in the victory at Lezama. Next up is a trip to Cultural Durango on 6 January.
