Lezama Weekend Recap: Bilbao Athletic Earn First Win Under Aritz Solabarrieta

Bilbao Athletic 3-2 Calahorra

Aritz Solabarrieta picked up his first win as Bilbao Athletic manager on Saturday as the Katxorros defeated Calahorra 3-2 at Lezama. Asier Villalibre scored a brace and Unai Vencedor added a goal of his own to mount an impressive second half comeback. Bilbao Athletic are now just six points off of the promotional playoff zone and will look to secure more points on Saturday when they travel to Real Unión.

Alavés B 2-0 CD Basconia

CD Basconia have now gone three straight matches without a win as the fell to Alavés 2-0 on Saturday. It was a difficult game for the feeder club against one of the best teams in the league. Basconia now find themselves in the middle of the table and are preparing for Saturday’s home match against Beasain.

Athletic Juvenil A 2-2 Alavés

Athletic’s Juvenil A team were looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 2-0 loss to Danok Bat but were facing another difficult challenge as they hosted Alavés at Lezama on Saturday. Josu Juste gave the Katxorros the lead after just five minutes until the visitors scored two quick goals in the second half to take the lead. Jon Guruzeta then responded with a goal right at the hour mark to secure a hard-fought 2-2 draw. Andoni Galiano’s side will travel to Getxo on Sunday with hopes of ending their two game winless streak.

Lezama Juvenil A

The Juvenil A team rescued a point against Alavés (AC)

Danok Bat 2-1 Athletic Juvenil B

After winning their previous four games, Athletic Juvenil B fell 2-1 on the road against Danok Bat with the lone goal being scored by Adrian Trespalacios. It was just the third loss of the season for the Katxorros who now trail Real Sociedad at the top of the table by two points. They will have the chance to retake control of the table on Saturday when they travel to Indartsu, having played them to a 1-1 draw in the first game of the season.

Athletic Cadete A 1-0 Santutxu

It’s been a difficult year for Athletic’s Cadete A team who now appear to be on the right track. The team has now gone four straight games without a loss after defeating Santutxu 1-0 at Lezama on Saturday. Adur Insausti scored the only goal in the game as the Katxorros picked up three very important points. They will be back at home again on Sunday as they host Alavés, who have been one of the best teams in the league.

Indartsu 2-7 Athletic Cadete B

The perfect season continues for Athletic’s Cadete B team who have not lost a single game this year. On Sunday the team traveled to Indartsu where they won 7-2 thanks to braces from Aimar Peña and Ibon Sánchez, while Kerman Junquera, Ekhi Ibarra, and Aitor Vega all added a goal as well. Athletic hold a two point lead over Leioa at the top of the table and will defend their place on Sunday as they host Danok Bat at Lezama.

Athletic Infantil A 5-0 Zalla

What a season it’s been for Athletic’s Infantil A team. With Saturday’s 5-0 home win over Zalla, José Luaces’s side have won every single game this year. The Katxorros boast a +78 goal difference and have only conceded three goals all season. They command the top spot in the table with 16 points separating them from second placed Barakaldo.

Athletic Infantil B 4-3 Somorrostro

Athletic San Mamés 2006 rebounded from last weekend’s 3-1 loss to Baskonia with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Somorrostro at Lezama on Saturday. The Katxorros have now won three of their last four games by a combined score of 13-8.

Athletic Alevin A 0-3 Cultural Durango

San Mamés 2007 saw their three game unbeaten streak snapped on Saturday as they fell to Cultural Durango 3-0 at Lezama. The Alevin A team still have control of second place in the league table and will be looking to make up ground on Santutxu as they travel to take on Arratia on Saturday. Athletic won the previous meeting 4-3 earlier this season.
